Connection. Safety. Belonging.
Individual Therapy (In-person Session)
Hopeful Mind Psychology provides individual therapy for adolescents and adults. The therapy process usually (not always) begins with understanding the reasons you come for therapy, and for you to feel what it is like to be working with your psychologist. You and your psychologist will explore what you would like to get out of your sessions.
Subsequently, your psychologist will share her thoughts about what she can help you with and how you may reach your therapeutic goals. More often than not, your goals can be achieved through building skills using evidence-based interventions.
Individual Therapy (Telehealth Sessions)
We provide telehealth services for anyone who prefers it and when COVID-19 calls for it. COVID-19 has enabled us to adapt to uncertainty and some people have embraced telehealth sessions as their preferred options. It is practical as no matter where you are, we can still support you. It is convenient without the commute time and the sessions can be done in your comfort zone. Telehealth sessions can be videocall sessions or phone call sessions. For a phone call session, your psychologist will call you at the time of the appointment. Please find a private space so you can focus on your sessions.
If you prefer a videocall session, you will be given a link to “meet” your psychologist 1-2 days prior to your appointment. Click on the link at the time of your appointment and there will be instructions for you to follow. To make your sessions more productive, find a quiet and private space; find a device holder so you do not hold on to your device for 50 minutes long; prepare an earphone, or a headset; and find a place where internet can be easily accessed.
If you do not have a private space for a telehealth session, please raise this issue with your psychologist.
EMDR Therapy (in person or telehealth)
Eye Movement and Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy was founded by Francine Shapiro and has been backed by solid research.
EMDR Therapy has been found effective to treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Additionally, EMDR is also effective at treating anxiety, depression, addiction, grief and loss, trauma and any adverse life events.
EMDR Therapy is based on the premise that mental health issues are memory disorders. People experience many things in their lifetime. We may remember things that happened when we were young, which somehow still affects us to this day. We may still remember vivid image, sounds, thoughts, physical sensations, or smell and taste; eventhough the event happened ages ago. These memories are “alive” and taking over some parts of your life.
With EMDR therapy, our brain can learn that these memories have no function anyore, as we are now safe. Our brain have the capacity to heal these past memories and to minimise the disturbing effects that come with these memories. This approach may suit some people, but it is not for everyone. Your psychologist will structure the most suitable approach for your situation.
During EMDR Therapy, especially in some specific phases of EMDR Therapy, your psychologist will wear a disposable face mask in sessions. If this is a concern for you, please raise this concern to your psychologist.
